A delegation from Hizb ut-Tahrir Australia delivered Monday morning, 29/08/16, a strongly-worded letter of protest and condemnation to the Pakistani Consulate in Sydney regarding the case of Dr. Iftikhar. The letter comprised of the media release issued by the media office of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Pakistan about the inhumane treatment of Dr. Itikhar in a Lahore prison, noting,

The regime has descended to even lower depths of indecency and oppression against one of the prominent advocates for the Khilafah in Pakistan, Dr. Iftikhar. After months of campaigning for an operation for his severe ulcerative colitis which worsened during his imprisonment, Dr. Iftikhar finally had his large bowel removed on Saturday 6 August 2016 after a lengthy operation. Even though he was unconscious after his operation, the regime thugs’ first concern was to slap on shackles after the operation. In a critical condition after his operation, Dr. Iftikhar first suffered from internal bleeding and now has an infection to his wound. Yet, the prison authorities visited and asked for Dr. Iftikhar to be transferred back to prison, even though the Professor of Surgery insisted that he must be in post-operative surgical care for a total of three weeks after the operation. Police then on 11 August 2016 physically attacked a doctor who came to examine Dr. Iftikhar. (Full release)

All of this has happened after Dr. Iftikhar and other members of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Pakistan have been imprisoned and held without trial in Lahore for over a year as political prisoners.

The delegation – comprised of Uthman Badar and Ismail al-Wahwah – was received by the Pakistani Consul General Abdul Majid Yousfani who, to his credit, accepted to pass on the letter to the Pakistan Foreign Ministry. The two parties also engaged in a long and positive discussion about the state of Pakistan and the broader Muslim world.

A stand of protest was also exhibited outside the consulate.
