| بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم Question: A miracle [mu'jizah] is an extraordinary occurrence [khāriqun lil ‘ādah] and it occurs only at the hands of prophets and messengers. However the scholars also use the word ‘karāmah'. They give it various definitions and attempt to establish its reality by many āyāt and ahādith. The question is: does what is called a ‘karāmah' exist or not? If the answer is yes we seek a comprehensive explanation in this matter, and if the answer is no, then how do we understand the story of the Ahl al-Kahf for instance or Ashāb al-Ukhdūd, or the saying of Umar ibn al-Khattāb (ra), ‘O Sāriya, the mountain!' Similarly the incident of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas in the Tigris river, and many like occurrences? |

| Question The following text is found in the draft constitution: "Article 140 - Every individual from the individuals of the community (ummah) has the right to derive benefit from public ownership. The State has no right to allow any particular individual to possess, own or utilise publicly owned properties to the exclusion of other citizens." In our books we find the hadith, "The Muslims are partners in three..." as well as the hadith, "The people are partners in three..." In light of this, the question is as follows. |

On March 3rd 2010 it will be the 86th anniversary of the destruction of the Khilafah. After tasting the bitter fruits of socialism in the 1950’s and then the mirage of independence throughout the 1960’s and 1970’s, the situation of the Ummah across the world remains the same if not worse. As a result, the problems the Ummah faces have ballooned into many other issues. The Ummah faces a number of challenges since the destruction of the Khilafah that would need to be overcome for change. Challenges such as poverty, development, healthcare as well as sustainable economic growth, distribution of wealth and industrial development have for long been the centre of debate and discussion between policy makers, intellectuals and government ministers. Unfortunately such a debate has skewed the discussion of change, and whilst many material obstacles need to be overcome by the Ummah, change from some perspectives remains a physiological barrier rather than material i.e. do the Ummah believe change is possible. |

The 3rd March 2010 marks 86 years since the formal abolition of the Khilafah. The Muslim world ever since has been divided into a number of different nations, with their own flag, national identity, ruler and their own borders. Whilst the end of the Khilafah has much to do with the weakness that overcame the Ummah in understanding Islam, the Western colonialist nations played a big role in the destruction of the Khilafah. It was Britain, Russia and France who worked to conquer the Islamic territories and today continue with their efforts to ensure the revival of the Ummah is crippled whenever any sign of resurgence surfaces. The aim of the colonialist nations through this is to ensure that any trend for reunification would have to be monumental if it is to succeed. David Fromkin, Professor and expert on Economic History at the University of Chicago confirmed this: "Massive amounts of the wealth of the old Ottoman Empire were now claimed by the victors. |

The definition of Brotherhood varies between dictionaries, ranging from blood relationships to associations based on common interests and activities such as unions and professional associations.
Islam redefined brotherhood in a new and profound manner by changing the relationship from one based on personal interest or mutual activity to a permanent bond based on belief and acceptance of Islam. Allah (swt) revealed:
The believers are nothing else than brothers. So make reconciliation between your brothers, and fear Allah, that you may receive mercy.” [TMQ 49:10]
