CONDOLEEZZA RICE, US SECRETARY OF STATE: This is not 1968; and the invasion of Czechoslovakia where Russia can threaten its neighbours, occupy a capital, overthrow a Government and get away with it. Things have changed.
QUICK COMMENT: "American Secretary of State Condelezza Rice knows what year it is, or at least what year it isn't. This is one thing evident in her recent address from the whitehouse concerning the Russian incursion into Georgia. She informed us that we are not in 1968. Her point being that Russia cannot invade countries and overthrow governments. Another thing as evident as day from this is the hypocrisy which has become a permanent feature of American foreign policy. What Ms. Rice didn't mention but what every observer of world politics knows is that this right to invade countries and install puppet regimes in the 21st century is reserved for the United States. With America still in the quagmire set up by her imperial invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan - where the US went in and did exactly what Ms. Rice is warning Russia not to - one wonders how the US administration can give such advice to Russia and still maintain a straight face or a clear conscience."
